About us

The Association for Anthropology and Medicine (AGEM) is an incorporated, nonprofit organization (seat in Hamburg, founded in 1970), an association of researchers and science-promoting persons and institutions. It promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in the fields of medicine, medical history, human ecology, medical sociology, psychology, and the life, cultural, and social sciences, especially anthropology and folklore studies, with the goal of intensifying the study of all medical practices around the world. We do this by publishing the peer-reviewed journal Curare, organizing specialized scientific conferences, documenting literature on this theme, and presenting relevant information on its website.
