The the\u00admat\u00adic focus \u201cGen\u00adder and Med\u00adi\u00adcine\u201d of this Curare issue explores his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly shaped and endur\u00ading gen\u00adder imbal\u00adances with\u00adin our med\u00adical struc\u00adtures and their influ\u00adence on our every\u00adday inter\u00adac\u00adtions. The assem\u00adbled arti\u00adcles draw on insights from crit\u00adi\u00adcal fem\u00adi\u00adnist ini\u00adtia\u00adtives and the women\u2019s health move\u00adment. They ask why peo\u00adple devel\u00adop dif\u00adfer\u00adent ill\u00adness\u00ades depend\u00ading on gen\u00adder and how these ill\u00adness\u00ades are dealt with on the basis of spe\u00adcif\u00adic socio-cul\u00adtur\u00adal influ\u00adences. These con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions trace his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal devel\u00adop\u00adments and, build\u00ading on this, they exam\u00adine cur\u00adrent con\u00addi\u00adtions of gen\u00adder-relat\u00aded pow\u00ader rela\u00adtions. The term \u2018gen\u00adder med\u00adi\u00adcine\u2019 is intend\u00aded to help bring mar\u00adgin\u00adalised per\u00adspec\u00adtives into focus in order to over\u00adcome the view of the cis-male body as the med\u00adical-phar\u00adma\u00adceu\u00adti\u00adcal norm, and to devel\u00adop a new way to under\u00adstand and respond to health inequities in clin\u00adi\u00adcal care and health ser\u00advices deliv\u00adery. The arti\u00adcles also reflect (self-)critically on the Euro\u00adcen\u00adtric nar\u00adrow\u00ading of per\u00adspec\u00adtives in order to shed light on the colo\u00adnial effects of \u2018med\u00adical expan\u00adsion,\u2019 effects which\u00adhave hard\u00adly been addressed to date. As the crit\u00adi\u00adcal con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions in this issue show,\u2018gender med\u00adi\u00adcine\u2019 is still a utopia or a \u2018non-space\u2019 in many parts of the med\u00adical pro\u00adfes\u00adsion. In the absence of a place where med\u00adi\u00adcine is prac\u00adtised in the way the authors and research part\u00adners would like to see it, we at Curare<\/em> are glad to pro\u00advide at least a space for reflec\u00adtion. We hope that the con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions will help to ini\u00adti\u00adate the fur\u00adther devel\u00adop\u00adment of med\u00adi\u00adcine towards a more inclu\u00adsive and equi\u00adtable project.<\/p>\n\n
