About the journal

Curare. Journal of Medical Anthropology

The AGEM has been pub­lish­ing the jour­nal Curare since 1978. It is bilin­gual (Ger­man and Eng­lish) and the arti­cles are sub­ject to a peer-review process. Until 2007 it was sub­ti­tled Zeitschrift für Eth­nomedi­zin und Tran­skul­turelle Psy­chi­a­trie, since 2008 the sub­ti­tle has been Zeitschrift für Medi­zineth­nolo­gie. There are cur­rent­ly two issues per year. We wel­come arti­cles, reports, book reviews and sug­ges­tions for themed issues at any time. You can find out more about the pro­ce­dure here.

We are pleased to announce that the Ger­man Research Foun­da­tion (DFG) has fund­ed the digi­ti­sa­tion of all vol­umes of Curare that were pre­vi­ous­ly only avail­able in print. A cor­re­spond­ing appli­ca­tion was approved, so that all pre­vi­ous Curare issues will be freely acces­si­ble online via Hum­boldt-Uni­ver­sität zu Berlin in the near future.

Since 2024, Curare is pub­lished as an open access jour­nal: https://curarejournal.org/

In addi­tion, Curare will con­tin­ue to be pub­lished by Reimer Verlag.

Peer Review Policy

After a pos­i­tive eval­u­a­tion by the edi­to­r­i­al board, all sub­mit­ted research man­u­scripts will be reviewed in a dou­ble-blind pro­ce­dure. Each peer-reviewed arti­cle con­tains infor­ma­tion at the end about the date of receipt and accep­tance of the manuscript.
