CONFERENCE – Social Power and Mental Health

The con­fer­ence explores the lat­est social research on the rela­tion­ships between pow­er, mar­gin­al­i­sa­tion, inequal­i­ty and men­tal health, and aims to fore­ground the exper­tise of peo­ple with lived expe­ri­ence of men­tal health challenges.

Our keynote speak­ers include Prof Imo­gen Tyler (Lan­cast­er) and Rai Wadding­ham, sur­vivor-researcher and Chair of the Hear­ing Voic­es Network.

Oth­er speak­ers include the cur­rent and for­mer Pres­i­dents of the Roy­al Col­lege of Psy­chi­a­trists, Prof Wendy Burn and Dr Adri­an James, schol­ar activist Rian­na Wal­cott, writer and men­tal health advo­cate Fura­ha Asani, and sur­vivor aca­d­e­mics Peter Beres­ford and Sarah Carr. Over 70% of our speak­ers have lived expe­ri­ence of men­tal dis­tress and/or the psy­chi­atric system.

We have organ­ised the con­fer­ence over the past two years with a group of men­tal health ser­vice users/survivors from Cam­bridgeshire, and in part­ner­ship with local organ­i­sa­tions includ­ing Life­craft and QTI Coali­tion of Colour.
